Neonatology
The Neonatal Unit of Lady Ridgeway Hospital is a tertiary care centre for newborns who need specialized treatment from all over the country. Most of these babies are premature and have a low birth weight, which can lead to many complications. Therefore these babies need to be followed up on long term basis.
Neonatal Unit Consists of 3 sections
- Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)
- Aseptic Side
- Septic Side (Isolation Side)
Neonatal Retrieval Team of the neonatal unit carry out neonatal retrievals from the hospitals of the western province from 8am to 4pm. This service was initiated in 2013 by Dr. Ramya de Silva.
Clinical meetings are conducted monthly in the neonatal unit comprising of health education lectures and Perinatal death review.
Well Baby Clinic of the Neonatal Unit is on every Wednesday at 2 pm at LRH-OPD, Room number-26.
The work force consists of one Consultant In-charge, 11 medical Officers, 34 Nursing Officers and 10 supportive staff.
